Maggie paints from both her studio at The Eddy and her family hide away in the beautiful hills of Kentucky that she shares with husband Matt, their children Andrew and Suzanne, and australian shepherd Carson. An avid 'plein air' painter, she chooses to make nature her studio as often as she can, wherever she may travel.
My inspiration to paint came years ago while grieving the death of a close friend. Though I had taken a few art classes in college, I had never painted before and was a bit surprised by my compelling desire to do so.
I continue to paint because it offers me indescribable balance and relief. It allows me to accept and resolve the things that I perceive to be chaotic and imperfect, and through grace find an authentic purpose, a harmonious arrangement to it all. When I am able to trust that grace, that creative energy, then it simply becomes a matter of showing up at the canvas to quiet the chatter in my head.
My inspiration still includes thoughts of my friend, yet it now also embraces the powerful images I find in nature while hiking with friends and family. The driving force behind my work these days is the astonishing and extravagant show that Mother Nature puts on, regardless of season.
I am a true believer that art is my way to give back to the world. Falling asleep at the end of the day enveloped in reflective gratitude is something I work toward each day: thankful for the inexplicable peace that painting offers me and grateful to have the opportunity to paint.
