Maggie Barnes is a Cincinnati-based contemporary artist. Painting became her pathway through grief in 2004 when, newly sober, she was faced with the crushing loss of a dear friend. Now her profession, daily painting continues to help her stay sober. Using oil paints, acrylics, and mixed media to chase the intangible, she trusts the creative process to help her find a harmonious arrangement to things that appear chaotic and imperfect. Her strongest inspirations come from nature and music and her paintings are often created outdoors or while listening to music at her studio in Loveland, Ohio. They are abstract and abstract impressionist in style.
Influenced by her English Literature degree from the University of Cincinnati and Master of Education from Xavier University, Maggie specializes in concept art. Her exhibits are often presented in thesis and large scale theme mode. Her most recent exhibition, Alzheimer’s Empowerment: Dare to Find the Beauty, was a multimedia interactive art exhibit exploring the challenges of staying in a relationship with loved ones who have Alzheimer’s.
Maggie is also a forest therapy guide, certified through the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy. Embracing her passion for nature along with her love of expression, she can often be found in local parks facilitating outdoor “Painting in the Woods” workshops.
Whether painting from her studio or setting up her easel wherever she may travel, Maggie remains trusting of and fascinated by the intersection of connectivity, synchronicity, intention, and creative process.
